The ornamental ensemble of the cathedral abounds not only with monumental wooden figures, but also with subtle sculptures as, for example, these carved motifs executed by the talented cabinetmaker Philippe Pariseau.

The cathedral's first stained-glass windows, composed of geometrical forms, date from 1879. Most of them were replaced, between 1956 and 1961, by 17 historiated windows, continuing the tradition of teaching biblical events through pictures in glass.
The nave, the galleries, and the sanctuary of the Notre Dame Cathedral, in an architectural perspective: typical of the revival of the Gothic style during the nineteenth century, in Europe as in America.
The first organ of the Cathedral was installed by the founder of the famous organ builders “Maison Casavant”, Mr. Joseph Casavant. It has been rebuilt three times, most recently in 1997. The present organ (loft and chancel organs included) has 4,700 pipes (96 ranks in 8 divisions over three manuals and pedal) with 72 stops. It has a 256 level memory combination system.

Anniversary of the Dedication of Notre Dame Cathedral On September 4 &5, at our Saturday and Sunday offices,
we will celebrate the 157th anniversary of the dedication of Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica (1853). The importance of the cathedral church in the liturgical life of the diocese flows from the role of the Bishop as the high priest of the Lord's flock. Every parish community is related to the Bishop, and therefore the anniversary of the cathedral church's dedication as a place of worship is celebrated throughout the diocese. Annual
